Collecting rare mounts is one of the most rewarding goals in the game. Whether you want a dragon, a mechanical construct, or a rare creature from a raid, you need a plan to be efficient. This guide explains how to optimize your time and increase your chances of adding these prestige items to your stable.
Understanding Drop Rates
Most rare mounts have a drop rate of less than one percent. This means you are not guaranteed a drop even after fifty kills. To succeed, you must use volume to your advantage.
- Weekly Lockouts: For raid mounts, you are limited to one kill per week per character.
- Alt Army: If you have multiple characters at the maximum level, run the raid on all of them. This is the fastest way to increase your total kill count each week.
- Check the Journal: Use the in-game dungeon journal to see exactly which boss drops the mount. Do not waste time killing bosses that do not have the mount on their loot list.

Do not rely on your memory. Use these tools to track your progress and stay organized.

- Clear the Trash Quickly: If you are farming a raid, you only need to kill the bosses that drop the mount. Use your movement abilities to rush past packs of enemies you do not need to fight.
- Use Efficient Routes: For outdoor world bosses, plan a path that hits every spawn point without backtracking.
- Stay Persistent: The drop rate is random. Some players get the mount on the first try, while others take years. Do not give up if you do not see it immediately.
- Use Your Gold: As mentioned in my previous guides, if you have excess gold, check the auction house. Some mounts are tradeable and can save you hundreds of hours of farming.
How to Handle Raid Resets
If you are farming a raid, you can often save your lockout to a secondary character. This allows you to skip the early bosses and go straight to the final boss where the mount drops.
- Create a group with an alternate character that has not cleared the raid.
- Invite your main character to that group.
- Kill the boss on your main character and leave the group.
- When you return, you will be saved to that specific instance, allowing you to jump straight to the boss on your other characters.
